For the finest silicone hoses in the world choose SFS. FAQ's about SFS hoses... Why should I buy silicone hoses? For the best looks and performance it has to be silicone. Silicone hoses operate at much higher temperatures and pressures than rubber hoses. Why are SFS hoses the best? Unlike other manufacturers SFS only use premium grade silicone rubber throughout the hose, and do not use cheaper compounds on the inside to cut costs. All SFS silicone hoses are constructed to meet or exceed SAEJ20R1 Class A. SFS ensure that their hoses keep their vibrant colours, and do not fade over time, by using the most expensive pigments available. Where are SFS hoses manufactured? SFS manufacture all of their hoses in the UK, ensuring they have total control of all aspects of quality. Most other brands sell Chinese or Indian manufactured hoses (branding them with their own logos). These imported hoses might be cheap, but they are not produced to the strict quality procedures that SFS work to. Can SFS make a special hose for my car? Due to the way the hoses are made SFS can make specials but they are subject to a tooling charge, we are happy to help so please contact us. If another car has the same engine will the hoses fit? Not usually, even if the engines are the same the position of the radiator, expansion bottle, heater matrix, etc. may be different. SFS don't list my car but I still want hoses. The only option is to the range of standard motorsport parts to make up a kit for your car. This range includes accessories such as machined billet aluminium joiners and hose clips. How do I clean the hoses? SFS suggest hot soapy water, oil based solutions such as WD40 will discolour the hose and should not be used. How do I cut the hoses? The best way is to use a new snap off blade for cutting and a hose clip around the hose as a guide for a straight line. Are SFS hoses suitable for oil & petrol? SFS's standard range of hoses are only suitable for air and water, for oil vapour and fuel SFS offer 'Flouro-Lined' silicone hoses. What are Flouro-Lined hose? These hoses are made with specially formulated fluoro-silicone. They are suitable for carrying oil, fuel vapour or as a fuel filler. They are not suitable for power steering fluid or for continuous fuel use. What are Nomex hoses? Nomex is a material used in firefighters clothing and in motorsport racewear. SFS Nomex hoses look just like any other blue SFS hose, but the silicone is reinforced with Nomex. Ordinary silicone hoses have a temperature range of -60°C to +180°C whereas SFS Nomex hoses have a temperature range of -60°C to +220°C. SFS Nomex hoses are only available in blue. What are Wire Reinforced hoses? Wire Reinforced hoses feature an internal wire helix which allows them to be bent tightly without collapsing. The internal cross sectional shape and size is maintained even when forming tight bends. SFS Wire Reinforced hoses use the same silicone material as other SFS hoses. They have a smooth inner bore and convoluted outer. How long does delivery take? Many popular parts/colours are held in stock, however with so many variations and so many colour options available (over 5000 combinations) many SFS hoses have to be made-to-order. This can take about 14 days. What is ply thickness? Hoses are described as having 3 ply or 4 ply. This affectively refers to amount of layers of silicone used in construction. 3 ply hoses have a wall thickness of 3.5-4.5mm. 4 ply is usually used with larger bore hoses which require a higher burst pressure and have a wall thickness of 5mm. Hose measurements are always defined by their inner bore diameters and so it is easy to overlook the amount of ply used in their construction. Beware of cheaper hoses where costs are cut by reducing the ply. Can SFS make hoses in any colour? SFS offer a standard range of seven different colours which should cover most requirements.
